MSI has accustomed us to big ostentatious gaming PCs, with flashy leds and shapes as angular as aggressive. With the PS63 Modern 8SC, the manufacturer takes his philosophy against the opposite by proposing a sober PC that does not look at all costs performance in play, but has the merit of proposing a powerful configuration.
The goal here is to offer a sleek and slim PC, but with a GTX 1650 graphics card to be as versatile as possible. If technically the computer is successful, some defects however spoil the experience.
With the PS63 Modern 8SC, MSI wanted to give an ultraportable look to its 15-inch PC and abandoned its usual design. This goes through a brushed aluminum frame of the most beautiful effect, without artifice except for the logo of the brand printed discreetly on the hood. It should be noted however that this hood easily attracts fingerprints.
A premium design that is confirmed once the PC open, with a keyboard part still as neat, just like the screen. Aeration is placed in the hinge to be as unobtrusive as possible. Visually, MSI did a great job, delivering a very elegant product.
MSI relied on finesse with a 15 mm chassis. Unfortunately, this is felt on the keyboard, which has a race far too short to be satisfactory, despite good resistance. The fault with a layout of the keys a little strange, especially compared to the trackpad. This being very wide (and reacting well, note it), the user tends to place his wrists on the sides in a very distant position, and therefore unintuitive. Similarly, the key “entry”, long, is not placed in a very practical way, like the key “Fn”, absent on the left side of the keyboard. It should also be noted the absence of keypad, which could have found its place on a 15 inches. MSI, however, tried to bring a comfortable typing by raising the keyboard part with very thick pads located under the PC. The fingerprint sensor is integrated in the trackpad and responds correctly to the user’s requests.
Connectivity is very complete for a computer of this finesse. The MSI offers a USB Type-C 3.1, three USB Type-A 3.1 ports, including a Quick Charge 3.0 certified to quickly charge a compatible smartphone or tablet, an HDMI port, a mini-jack and a player microSD, always appreciable on this type of products.
However, it is necessary to break the seal of the manufacturer to arrive there. Once the guts of the computer reached, it is found that the RAM (16 GB, 2600 MHz DDR4) is in Single Channel. However, it is possible to add another 16 GB, since a second location is planned. Similarly for the M.2 2280 SSD, since it is possible to add one in addition.
